Root Canal Therapy

Root canals

If decay progresses from the superficial layer of the tooth to the deeper nerve chamber, then the patient may experience pain. If left untreated at this stage, then the tooth or the surrounding structures can get infected leading to swelling or a gum boil. Root canal is a safe and effective measure to treat painful and infected teeth.

With the recent advances in dentistry, root canal is a relatively painless procedure and in most cases can be done in a single sitting.

Root canals are perfectly safe for children too, when indicated. Contrary to popular belief, the milk or deciduous teeth need to be treated for cavities and other infections in order to protect the underlying permanent teeth

A root canal is recommended if you have:

  • Severe toothache while chewing or biting
  • Prolonged sensitivity or pain to hot or cold drinks
  • Severe discoloration of the tooth
  • Swelling and tenderness of gums
  • A persistent or recurring boil on the gums
  • Severe pain especially during night time

Replantation Of Natural Teeth

Tooth Replantation of teeth which are exfoliated (due to trauma) is a routine and successful can be done as long as the periodontal ligament remains healthy. It is always better and more economical to utilize a patient’s natural teeth than using implants.

However natural teeth which have been replanted have a lower life expectancy than titanium implants
